MacFarlane’s Ranch

Hennigan’s Stead is a region without a town and so most folks congregate at MacFarlane’s Ranch. And most of those folks are employed by Bonnie MacFarlane. The largest ranch in New Austin, MacFarlane’s Ranch occupies fertile land. Raising all manner of livestock and acting as a community leader, Bonnie MacFarlane sets an imposing figure.

For travelers looking for honest work, Bonnie MacFarlane rarely runs out of jobs. There is always work she needs done for herself or on behalf of other New Austin residents in Hennigan’s Stead and Cholla Springs.

Pike’s Basin

East of MacFarlane’s Ranch is Pike’s Basin, a natural formation used as a hideout by bandits and outlaws. While the natural recess offers excellent protection from sight, that advantage is gone once anybody walks up to the edge of the basin. From there, any gunfighter will instantly have a height advantage. Even the clumsiest of rifleman could squander that upper hand.

Between Pike’s Basin and MacFarlane’s Ranch, you may find a small camp set up. Proceed with caution and you will find a man offering work to travelers of less discerning taste. Be prepared for jobs that will put you in the cross hairs of dangerous men and maybe even the law.

Manteca Falls

Manteca Falls is as beautiful as it is awe inspiring. These pictures truly do not give it justice. The sheer power of the falling water can be felt as palpably as the mist on your face. The sound of the rushing water is deafening and is sure to leave one lost in introspection.

Brittlebrush Trawl

Travel west from Manteca Falls and you’ll find Brittlebrush Trawl, a small dock that offers very little to travelers besides a place to fish from. Trout can be found in these waters, however, rumor has it that weapons are smuggled from this very dock. Fish here at your own risk!

Stillwater Creek

New Austin’s little slice of the bayou, Stillwater Creek is a wetland west of MacFarlane’s Ranch. All manner of game can be found here, including panthers. A dock was built into a small pool where one can fish for largemouth bass, a fish that fetches a fair price. On occasion, alligators have been known to make the creek their home, as well. It is a rather quiet place considering its close proximity to Thieves Landing and is perfect for a bit of hunting and fishing.

Thieves Landing

The western most location of Hennigan’s Stead, Thieves Landing is as its name implies. It is a place of respite for unsavory folks. There is no rule of law here except the rule of force. If you are peaceful, the Del Lobos gang will leave you unmolested. If you step out of line, however, they will be happy to fire back.

On the dock is a fellow ready to give work to the type of travelers who would hang out at a place like Thieves Landing. He is an odd fellow, but reliable in paying his debts.
