Reincarnation in the Five States?

By Frederick Vannesse

Reincarnation is the idea that once a person dies, their spirit or non-physical aspect will transfer to a new body and live a completely new life. The concept is common in many Eastern religions, though Western religions largely believe the afterlife to be a separate plane of existence instead of just returning with a new body. The concept has become a popular topic in the Five States due to claims that many residents have in fact experienced it. “I’ve been in the Five States a long time and had everything I could want and so no challenge remained,” said one resident I spoke to, “so I retired, left this life and found my spirit possessing a new body with no possessions or wealth and starting over felt so good.” Several others told similar stories. Tales of boredom from having it all and forcing them to leave their life behind only to be brought back to the Five States in a new body. Sometimes, in a different gender.

“I had all the clothing a man could want,” said Alva Fabre, “so I left this place and came back, but now I’m a woman so I could build a whole new wardrobe!” Western religious leaders have proclaimed the claims as hoaxes. “There is no such thing as reincarnation, you leave and you are gone from this place and you go to another,” said a priest, “these are just lies told for attention.” One investigator did confirm that many of the people that were claimed to have been “retired” or moved on from, were indeed no longer in the Five States. Their whereabouts could not be confirmed. However, this does not prove that these people were reincarnated, only that they are gone. Investigators believe the ones making the claims of reincarnation are assuming identities of people they know left. The few Easter religious leaders in the Five States did not provide a comment.

Del Lobo gang activity on decline
By Jose Chavez
U.S. military personal have been stationed in New Austin to combat threats from south of the border. The U.S. government has accused the government of Mexico of providing firearms to the Del Lobo gang in order to destabilize the U.S., specifically New Austin. While no evidence of Mexico providing the firearms has been uncovered, Del Lobo gang locations have been raided and Mexican military supplies were found. The Mexican government claims it was theft by Del Lobo gang members in the Mexico and then smuggled over the border. The military grade equipment has made the Del Lobo gang quite a threat, resulting in a federal response.

Federal military personal have not just been patrolling the state but actively putting down Del Lobo strongholds. While military grade equipment has been secured, the U.S. believes a large stockpile remains unaccounted for. The Del Lobo gang has withdrawn from the public, making themselves known sparingly as they try to avoid the attention of the U.S. military. Leadership in New Austin has not taken kindly to the U.S. military intervention. The state’s government said in a statement, “while we commend the U.S. commitment to keep foreign arms out of New Austin, they are exercising their authority in a way that is against the basic tenets of the federalism defined by our Constitution and should cease all activity until we can come up with a cooperative plan to end the Del Lobo once and for all.”

Body found in Cattail Pond, completely mauled
By Jane Duran
Ambarino Rangers patrolling for any sight of the Executioner killer spotted a dead body in Cattail Pond, an area the killer used to dump bodies in the past. In fact, Special Agent Rice Philips was held hostage by the Executioner not far from the pond. “We are sure that Mrs. Haven is the killer, but we know folks are copying her,” said the agent who found the body, “and at first, I thought it was indeed one of her victims.” However, the body was retrieved from the pound and found to be covered in cuts and bruises. “I knew it was a bear attack right away,” the ranger said. The Owiza bear is known to frequent this area, particularly on rainy nights like the night before the body was found. Evidence of a large bear in the area was found upon further investigation. The identity of the victim is not known.

Anti sniper bill introduced in state legislature
By Odell Clifton
With the reemergence of the Great Plains Sniper, the West Elizabeth state legislature is taking action. This week State Senator Wilbert Walverton introduced a bill that criminalizes the sell and possession of any scoped rifle. The legislation immediately kicked off a debate over effective distance, as some legislators suggested that a scope alone does not make a rifle a sniper rifle. Senator Walverton however is maintaining that any scope will turn a rifle into a long ranged sniper. “A scope on a pistol can make a man dangerous from range,” Senator Walverton said, “we need to outlaw scoped rifles and scope add ons.” Several West Elizabeth residents have written their legislators, mostly hunters, demanding that the bill is not passed.

State Senator Silas Kingsbery has said the bill will not pass. “Senator Walverton means well, but he goes to far,” Senator Kingsbery said, “the people of West Elizabeth should not have their freedom restricted to punish one person.” Other State Senators have also said they will not support the bill. It seems hunting with a rifle will remain legal, for now.

Outlaw posse taken out be entire town of Valentine
By Donna Deshner
Three outlaws rode into to town bragging about their physical prowress. “Just a few minutes ago, we surrounded a fella and pushed him a around a bit, threw some punches,” said one of the outlaws, “taught him a lesson on how to be tough.” The others confirmed the story, telling other parts of how they came across a man out fishing alone and decided to fight him. “If he was tough, he could fight us off,” one of the said. After several minutes of their beligerent storytelling, folks in Smithfield’s Saloon had heard enough. “Y’all picked one a person all by themselves with the three of ya, and you think y’all are the tough ones?” a man asked. Before the leader of the outlaws could reply, the man who asked the question smashed an empty bottle over his head.

A fight erupted but it was much less chaotic than usual. Everyone in the saloon attacked the outlaws, beating them until they were bloody and half conscious. They were tied up to their horses and then their horses were spooked, sending them sprinting. Them men screamed as they were carried around and dragged through the dirt. Their victim remained unaccounted for. If they did show up in Valentine, they did not announce their arrival.

Rumors of Dragon Engulf Lemoyne!
By Sofia Kathleen Fairfax – Lead Correspondent
To put it mildly, the state of Lemoyne has had a strange couple of months.  Not fit to just survive gang wars, criminal organizations, and the wandering corpse of the past in the form of the Lemoyne Raiders, oh no.  It has seen ghost ships, claims of sea monsters, lights in the sky, blood-drained corpses, and ghosts.  But now it’s reaching a fever pitch, with claims of dragons taking to the skies.

Chinese migrants and shop sellers have repeated in whispered tones, that a great beast has come from the homeland, and shall not rest until it has whatever dragons want.  They point to livestock like sheep disappearing or being found dismembered outside of Saint-Denis.  They claim heavy winds and strange noises at night are the creature.  Local police have even been called to a few Chinese shops, to calm down owners who are afraid.

When reached for comment, a local Saint-Denis police officer had this to say.  “I’d sooner believe in voodoo than flying dragons from across the oceans.  It’s nothing but ****.”

How long such claims will continue, or if it will fade away just to resurface like other mystical claims, remains unknown.

Hunt of the Creature of Flat Iron Lake begins

By Adam Parvey

Years ago a photograph surfaced of a creature in the Flat Iron Lake. Many believed it was a prehistoric creature, a sea bound dinosaur that somehow escaped extinction. Others dismissed the photograph as a hoax or a misidentified horse. Over the years a private group has worked on raising money for the inspection of the Flat Iron Lake. Fundraising has been slow as most people appear to believe the creature spotted in the lake was in fact just a horse. The group has finally raised enough money and will begin their hunt for what they call the Creature of Flat Iron Lake.

The investigation will include several boats with investigators analyzing surface tension. Their goal is to identify trends in surface tension and potentially locate where the creature may live. Several divers will be used as well, though they are likely to be of limited use if the creature does not surface. The group believes their diligence will be the best asset. “We may or may not have the tools to actually find it,” said a spokesman, “but we will be watching a lot so we are bound to see it show up at some point!”
